HaulTools Simulation • Offline Driver Field Guide • 24 October 2026
From installed to underway
A short first-session checklist.
- Install the complete release package using either method below. Start ATS, enable HaulTools Simulation in Mod Manager, then load your profile.
- Complete Patreon activation if prompted. This guide works offline; account activation is a separate online process.
- Park and press F9. Open Settings → Your profile and set the driver/company information. Choose your units and HOS cycle under Driver log → Hours of service.
- Open Settings → Simulation and enable the systems you want. Industrial supply is enabled by default. Disabled features can hide their workspace entries.
- Start a pre-trip in Inspections, then request a load in Dispatch & radio → Player dispatch, or start an industrial chain. Close F9 to return to driving.
Install once. Keep the set together.
Automatic and manual installation reach the same two destinations.
Close ATS before installing or updating. Use the package for the supported executable: ATS 1.61.3.18, Windows 64-bit. The installer checks the actual game executable. A newer or different executable needs a compatible HaulTools release.
Destination A / Steam game files
The ATS game folder
The folder containing bin\win_x64\amtrucks.exe. Find it in Steam → ATS → Manage → Browse local files.
Example: F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\American Truck Simulator
Destination B / Player files
The active ATS user folder
Usually Documents\American Truck Simulator, containing config.cfg and profiles. Use your OneDrive Documents location or custom -homedir if applicable.
Its mod subfolder receives the SCS file. This is separate from the Steam game folder.
Automatic installation
- Run HaulToolsSimulation_Setup.exe from the release supplied to you. The installer includes the required files; if your installer instead shows Choose ZIP…, select the complete Simulation release ZIP.
- On Welcome, select Continue. Setup detects Steam library locations.
- On Install locations, verify ATS GAME FOLDER and ATS USER FOLDER. Use Browse if either is wrong. Select the user folder itself, not its
modsubfolder. - Select Install Simulation. Allow the Windows permission prompt if needed. Wait for file checks, installation and verification to finish.
- Select Finish. Launch ATS, enable HaulTools Simulation in Mod Manager for the profile you use, load the profile and press F9.
plugins\HaulTools folder, plugins\HaulTools.dll, mod\HaulTools.scs and mod\HaulTools_Tools.scs without a legacy backup. It preserves Simulation settings/profile data. Keep a copy of any old files you want before upgrading.Manual installation
- Extract the complete HaulTools Simulation release package. Keep its DLL, runtime and SCS together.
- Copy the contents of the package’s
AmericanTruckSimulatorfolder into the actual ATS game folder. Merge folders and replace that release’s Simulation files. - Copy
Documents\AmericanTruckSimulator\mod\HaulToolsSimulation.scsfrom the package into your active ATS user folder’smoddirectory. Createmodif it does not exist. - Remove or move aside the old legacy HaulTools DLL/runtime and old HaulTools SCS packages so both generations do not load together. Keep unrelated plugins and mods.
- Launch ATS, enable the matching HaulTools Simulation SCS in Mod Manager, load the profile, complete activation if requested, then open F9.
ATS GAME FOLDER\bin\win_x64\plugins\ HaulToolsSimulation.dll HaulToolsSimulation\ audio\cb\cb_audio.htpak defaults\CB_SpeechCities.txt defaults\CB_SpeechPhrases.txt ATS USER FOLDER\mod\ HaulToolsSimulation.scs
The runtime folder is required for the CB audio and speech defaults. Do not place the DLL in mod, put the SCS in plugins, or copy the outer AmericanTruckSimulator wrapper into an extra nested folder. The HTML guide can stay anywhere; it does not need to be activated as a mod.
After an update
Restart ATS, check F9, and confirm the runtime/audio loads. Existing preferences live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\HaulToolsSimulation\config\HaulTools.ini. There is no loose install-folder INI to copy over your preferences. Back up the whole %LOCALAPPDATA%\HaulToolsSimulation folder together with your ATS saves before moving your operation to another PC.
Overview
Your operating picture at a glance.
Open F9 → Overview to check duty clocks, current load and truck status before leaving. The clocks show remaining driving/break/shift/cycle time. The load summary reflects the current operation; the latest signed pre-trip/post-trip records provide a quick inspection reference.
- Check your current duty state and remaining time.
- Review the load and truck information. Open the relevant workspace to make a change rather than treating a summary as a booking confirmation.
- Use the duty controls when your work status changes. Automatic driving marks movement when enabled; use On Duty for non-driving work and Off Duty or Sleeper for rest.
The small driving windows keep the logbook, CB and Dispatch visible after the main workspace closes.
Driver log & rest
Daily records, HOS preferences and recovery.
Driver log
Review the day’s duty graph and recorded events. Select the date you want, inspect the duty intervals, and use the available annotation controls to record a note. The active profile owns these records.
Duty defaults: 1 Off Duty, 2 Sleeper, 3 Driving, 4 On Duty, 5 30-minute break. Avoid conflicts with ATS bindings; reassign them in Settings → Hotkey assignment if needed.
Hours of service
Set automatic driving, US/metric distance units and the 60-hour/7-day or 70-hour/8-day cycle. Default: automatic driving, US units, 70-hour/8-day cycle.
The simulated clocks include driving until a break, an 11-hour driving allowance, a 14-hour shift window and the selected cycle. Treat these as gameplay systems.
Rest & recovery
Choose Sleep Anywhere, rest duration, animation length and backdrop fade. Park first. Default sleeper rest advances 600 game minutes with an 8-second presentation. Default FastBreak advances 30 game minutes.
In interior cab walk, get fully into the lying sleeper pose before requesting sleep. In Convoy, duty changes can be recorded but time skips are unavailable.
Logbook tools
Export CSV exports records. Reset HOS performs the simulation’s clock restart; it does not advance ATS time or erase duty history. Clear logbook deletes log entries. Clear map clears the recorded map history.
Use the clearing controls only when you intend to reset that record.
Inspections & DOT
Inspect the rig, sign the record, resolve the finding.
Pre-trip and post-trip walkarounds
- Park, set the brake and open Inspections. Start a pre-trip before work or a post-trip at the end. Alt + I starts a pre-trip walkaround.
- Enter exterior WalkMode with F12. Follow the blue station guides when enabled and move to the highlighted truck/trailer component.
- Use the displayed interaction key at each station to record its result. Shift + interaction key marks a defect where the walk inspection offers that action. Follow the live prompt/tablet feedback.
- Complete the checklist and sign the report using the paperwork controls. A started but unsigned inspection is not a completed signed record.
- Review the saved report and arrange work in Truck services for an actual maintenance finding.
Interactive walk inspections and blue guides default on. Turning off interactive walkaround in Configuration allows the standard eight-item F9 checklist.
DOT reports
Review the inspection/logbook check results and any fines or out-of-service status. Complete the required correction and use the offered payment/clearance controls when eligible. Paying a fine does not fabricate a signed inspection or fix truck wear.
Enforcement
Enable random weigh-station checks and set logbook/DOT/combined chances, cooldown and pre/post-trip audit chances. Changes affect future checks. Default chances are 22% logbook, 9% DOT and 4% combined, with a 60-game-minute cooldown.
The visible DOT walkaround option adds the inspector workflow when a qualifying check occurs.
Out of the seat. Into the job.
Exterior walking, cab movement, sleeper interaction and calibration.
Exterior / F12
Walk around your rig
Stop and set the brake, then press F12 to leave the driving position. Use W A S D or arrow keys and mouse look. Hold Shift to sprint, hold Ctrl to crouch, and press Space to jump. Shift + F12 toggles the exterior headlamp.
Use the on-screen station prompts for inspections, fueling and trailer work. Return to the cab entry area and use F12; a blocked return gives a proximity/status prompt.
Interior / Ctrl + F12
Move through the cab
From the stopped truck, press Ctrl + F12. Use movement keys and mouse look to move inside the configured cab bounds. Get up from the sleeper before returning to the driver seat with the same shortcut.
The sleeper sequence
| Where you are | Input | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Standing near the sleeper | E | Lie down. |
| Standing near the sleeper | Ctrl + E | Sit on the sleeper edge. |
| Sitting | E / Ctrl + E | Lie down / get up. |
| Fully lying down | Ctrl + E | Request Sleep Anywhere. |
| Lying down | E | Get up. |
Fit WalkMode to your truck
- Press Ctrl + Shift + F12 to open the camera/settings popout.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + M to give the panel mouse control. Use it again to return mouse look.
- Adjust the cab length, walking bounds, sleeper positions and bed height to fit the truck. Long sleepers support a cab rear limit up to 650 cm. Adjust walking pace, eye height, jump height and sounds as needed.
- Use Save Truck for a per-truck calibration. Saved profiles follow the truck’s brand, name and license plate and load on cab entry. Load/Delete Profile manage that saved calibration.
Settings → WalkMode & lights also exposes common sound, entry motion and headlamp controls. If the camera clips the bed, adjust bed height and sleeper position instead of repeatedly toggling modes.
Hands-on service
The truck remains an ATS vehicle throughout the workflow.
Interactive refueling
- Enable Manual fueling / prompts in Simulation. Park at a real fuel station within the configured reach, set the brake, turn the engine off and enter exterior WalkMode. The extra fuel reach defaults to 20 feet and is capped at 20 feet.
- Face a valid pump and press the displayed interaction key to take the nozzle directly. The payment keypad is disabled by default.
- Walk beside your truck within the pump’s allowed range.
- Hold the displayed interaction key to fuel. Watch the tank percentage. Release to stop and settle the actual ATS fuel bill.
- Return to the same pump, face it and interact to return the nozzle. Wait for Nozzle returned, then return to the truck.
Esc cancels an active fuel interaction; ATS still charges for fuel already dispensed. To restore the optional payment keypad, set KeypadEnabled=1 under [FuelCard] in HaulTools.ini; its game PIN is 1234. The fuel card workspace is a separate program with enrollment and invoice controls. The interaction key and trailer key must differ.
Outside trailer service
Enable Outside trailer service. HaulTools reads your ATS Trailer attach/detach keyboard binding (normally T) and displays it at the service station.
Connect
- Back into the trailer and let ATS perform its normal fifth-wheel/Advanced Coupling engagement.
- Exit and go to the landing-leg station. Use the displayed service key to raise the legs when requested.
- Move to the air/electrical line station and use the service key to connect the lines.
- Wait for completion before driving. Trailers without landing legs skip that physical step.
Disconnect
- Park and set the brake.
- Exit, go to the landing legs and lower them when the prompt requests it.
- Disconnect the air/electrical lines.
- Go to the fifth-wheel release station and use the service key. Wait until ATS confirms the trailer is detached before pulling away.
Use the live prompt to identify the next station. Trailer layout and leg availability vary. In-cab attach controls cannot bypass an active outside-service step.
Cross the marker. Choose your parking.
Open the depot market from your chosen parking spot.
- In a loaded single-player driving session, approach the actual company’s job-market marker. For an industrial reservation, use the pickup company/city on its load card.
- Drive across the marker once so ATS detects physical contact. Being near the depot or merely setting GPS is not enough.
- Move away to your preferred parking position, stop and set the brake.
- Use your normal ATS Activate binding (normally Enter) when the company’s job-market prompt is available. Open Freight/Cargo Market and accept the desired job normally.
- Follow the normal pickup workflow. Freight loads still require attaching the correct trailer. For Cargo Market jobs with your own trailer, follow ATS’s loading prompts; your rig stays where you parked it.
The remembered marker survives repositioning and opening/closing the market. Acceptance ends remote market access. Cross the marker again after loading a save, changing pickup companies or finishing a job. A receiver can serve as a new job-market pickup once the prior job has finished.
For ordinary ATS deliveries, follow the game’s delivery and parking instructions. Multi-stop unloading has its own workflow below. If a load is absent from the market, use its search/filter checks; extending the marker does not bypass cargo, trailer or skill restrictions.
Dispatch & radio
Request work, talk to Dispatch and run a delivery route.
Player dispatch
This tab requests loads for you. Choose Request load for an ordinary single-stop load, or explicitly choose Request multi-stop. Pick Local, Regional or OTR for a multi-stop request. Review the offer, pickup and destination before accepting.
With an owned trailer, the request routes you to a compatible Cargo Market pickup. Take a compatible job there. Without an owned trailer, use the Freight Market offer and its supplied trailer.
Dispatch board
This tab manages hired drivers. Select a driver, check the work order/readiness, then Assign dispatch or Release driver. Home/off days and compliance holds affect availability.
It does not book a load for the player truck. Use Player dispatch for your own load.
Run a multi-stop job
- Park in single player with a valid profile and eligible truck/trailer. Select Request multi-stop. Profile routes target Local 4–6, Regional 6–8 or OTR 8–10 delivery stops when compatible depots/routes are available.
- Accept the offer in ATS and complete pickup. Open Check stops or the Dispatch window to review the manifest. Route next stop updates guidance.
- Drive your chosen route. When ready to unload, stop, set the parking brake and keep the loaded trailer connected.
- Select Unload current stop, say “Unload stop” over PTT, or use the available unload interaction. Exterior walking uses the displayed interaction key. The intermediate-stop in-cab prompt can use ATS Activate.
- Hold the parked state through unloading: a brief stationary check precedes the approximately 10-second unload. Movement or detachment cancels it. Reconnect/park and retry the same stop if necessary.
- Check the updated cargo/stops, route to the next stop and repeat. For the final stop, complete the delivery and view the results in ATS. If no final results appear, use the normal ATS delivery interaction.
You can unload intermediate stops at your chosen parking location without lining up with a depot marker. Intermediate stops can pay a bonus of up to $1,500 per stop, depending on your settings. ATS handles the final contract payment separately.
Request more delivery time asks Dispatch for an extension when eligible. Ordinary “find a load” requests remain single-stop; a 100% multi-stop chance setting does not turn every ordinary request into a multi-stop route. Booking through Dispatch requires single player.
CB radio
- Open CB radio, turn on the radio and select a channel. Default is channel 19. Set voice/static/echo levels and conversation options.
- Open Audio & voice to select microphone/output devices, enable speech recognition and run Test microphone / Test transmission. Refresh devices after changing hardware.
- Hold F10, speak, then release. Start with “Dispatch, find a load” or “Dispatch, request load from Phoenix to Tucson.” Use supported city names in the speech catalog. The UI request buttons are available when voice is not convenient.
- When a conversation offers replies, select them with Alt + 1, 2 or 3. These are contextual replies, not universal load-accept shortcuts.
Player dispatch also controls dispatcher calls, voice, automatic job chance and interval. Default automatic offer chance is 35% at a 180-real-second interval when eligible. Available voices include Mike, Sarah, Chris and Dana. Windows speech recognition and the packaged audio must be available for voice features.
Driving windows
Ctrl + Shift + C toggles CB, L toggles Logbook, and D toggles Dispatch. Ctrl + Shift + M switches mouse interaction on/off so you can move or use the panels, then return control to driving. Ctrl + Shift + R toggles CB power.
Route planner
Plan the route around the delivery manifest.
- Load an eligible multi-stop job and finish any current unload. Park and set the brake.
- Open Route planner and enable Plan my route.
- Search a company/city or select a destination on the map. Add intermediate stops, reorder or remove them. Up to ten intermediate planning stops are supported; the ATS job’s final delivery stays last.
- Apply to GPS. ATS validates the route and computes road guidance. Use Restore dispatch route to return to the assigned route.
- Save normally in ATS to retain applied GPS state. An un-applied draft is not a saved game route.
Trip planning changes navigation; it does not manufacture industrial cargo or delivery credits. The phone/tablet Trip planner provides the same practical planning workflow with touch controls. Road-map availability depends on the loaded world.
Industrial supply
Haul inputs. Make goods. Deliver the output.
Open Industrial supply directly below Inspections. You can manage the feature in Settings → Simulation. Start with your own truck, no active job/selected pickup, and no owned trailer attached: industrial contracts use Freight Market supplied trailers.
Book the first inbound load
- Wait for the available depots to load. If prompted, close F9 and return to driving while HaulTools checks the routes and trailers.
- Browse chains with the arrows. Review the supplier → processor → customer names and cities. Choose Start chain. Browsing a different choice alone does not change your active chain.
- Select Book inbound <material>. Read the Current load card: cargo, units/weight, pickup company/city, delivery company/city, expiry and next action.
- Before driving, open ATS Freight Market, select the pickup city and search the cargo. Match destination and weight. Listed in ATS means your reserved load has been found in the market. If the card says Verify in ATS, check the market for the matching load before heading to pickup.
- If needed, use Route / refresh pickup, clear market filters and check again. Close F9 and return to driving briefly before checking the market again. Keep the same chain while refreshing a booking.
- At the supplier, take that job and attach the loaded freight trailer. The supplier’s stored stock decreases once ATS confirms pickup and loading.
- Deliver through ATS normally. Receiver inventory is credited once. ATS pays the freight contract.
What the panels mean
| Panel / value | Meaning and use |
|---|---|
| Current load | The active reservation and next required step. No booking / Ready for your next load means the previous contract is no longer active. |
| Available | Stored stock that is not reserved for an outbound contract. |
| Held | Stored stock reserved for a booked load. It remains stored until pickup and loading are confirmed. |
| Incoming | Reserved capacity for a delivery or a production batch. It is not yet available to book. |
| Stored / capacity | Physical inventory total compared with that inventory’s limit. Available + held equals stored; incoming uses future space. |
| Active production | The active recipe, input/output units, time per batch and current progress. Waiting for stock/space means the next batch cannot start. |
| Confirmed deliveries | Completed deliveries recorded for this saved operation. |
| Chain browser | The next chain you could start. Replace chain resets that chain’s inventory; it is not a cargo selector for the current contract. |
Stock bars / example display
Illustration only. In-game bars show your current inventory. Production progress is shown separately.
Production and outbound delivery
Production starts automatically when the processor has enough materials and space. For example, a Glass production batch can use 12 Sand to make 5 Glass over 240 game minutes. The Sand is consumed when production starts, and the Glass appears as incoming until the batch finishes. Check Active production for your chain’s recipe and remaining time.
- Advance ATS game time by driving or resting. Pause/menu time does not finish a batch.
- When the batch completes, its output becomes stored/available stock. Multiple inbound deliveries may be needed to fill a legal outbound trailer.
- When output stock and customer demand permit, select Book outbound <product>.
- Find the new Freight Market offer, collect it at the processor and deliver to the displayed customer. The customer receives the goods, and ATS pays you for the delivery.
Supplier replenishment and customer consumption occur every 360 game minutes. Available space, existing bookings, recipe quantities and trailer capacity determine how much you can haul.
Available recipe families
| Chain | Input → output | Batch time |
|---|---|---|
| Timber milling | Logs → Lumber | 180 game min |
| Packed lumber | Logs → Packed lumber | 180 game min |
| Grain milling | Grain → Flour | 180 game min |
| Wheat milling | Wheat → Flour | 180 game min |
| Milk processing | Raw milk → Milk | 120 game min |
| Cheese production | Raw milk → Cheese | 240 game min |
| Glass production | Sand → Glass | 240 game min |
| Cement production | Limestone → Cement | 240 game min |
These are gameplay recipes. Your installed companies/cargo, legal trailers, roads and skills determine which chains appear and their unit counts. Names follow installed definitions when available; a logo-only company replacement may not change the text name.
Saving and loading your progress
Save normally in ATS. Your industrial inventory, bookings, production progress and completed deliveries are linked to that save automatically. Loading an older tracked save returns your operation to its earlier state, including any load or production batch that was in progress. Progress made after that save stays separate.
If you load a save from before you started using Industrial supply, start a chain while you have no active job. If matching industrial history is unavailable, inventory pauses and the workspace explains what to do next. Back up your HaulTools profile data together with your ATS saves.
Fleet & people
Recruit, assign equipment, schedule work and manage readiness.
Your fleet
Select a hired driver to review the driver record, equipment and operational attention items. Counts summarize hired drivers, available drivers, applications and owned trucks. Terminate selected driver is a roster action; select carefully.
Truck assignment
Select a driver and truck, then use the garage selectors. Move driver and Move truck relocate each selected asset. Assign selected pair is a separate action. Check the assignment and available garage spaces.
Recruitment
Browse received applications. Run Background / MVR and Drug screening, review results, make a Conditional offer, then use Paid training if required. Terminal / hire completes the eligible hire workflow. Decline or clear only the applications you intend to remove.
Applicants come from ATS agency offers. New/reviewed applications can expire within one game hour; conditional/training/ready stages are retained.
Job postings
Choose Hotshot, Local or OTR and the number of openings, then Publish job ad. Review active listings; close the selected listing or all listings when recruitment is complete.
Default paid listing: $150 for seven game days, targeting three applications. Screening/training costs are shown by their workflows; default background check is $85 and paid training is $750 for three game days.
Driver schedule
Select a driver and browse the four-week periods. Blue indicates work, grey off days, amber a requested absence and green approved time off. Use Next request, Approve request, Clear time off or Change work pattern.
Automatic requests normally arrive with at least 14 days’ notice. Off/home days make the driver unavailable for HaulTools dispatch.
Compliance
Select the affected driver, read the case file and follow Required next steps. Run the required test, sponsor SAP when applicable, and complete the return-to-duty workflow. A failed test/hold is not cleared by dispatching a new load.
Use Terminate record only when you intend that roster/case action.
Enable Fleet & Hiring in Simulation if these tabs are hidden. ATS retains the underlying hired-driver/truck roster. HaulTools adds operational schedules, readiness, dispatch and accounting around it.
Truck services
Diagnostics, preventive maintenance and authorized work orders.
- Choose Your truck or Fleet truck. For fleet work, select the correct driver/truck.
- For your truck, choose Run player diagnostics. Review vehicle identity, inspection findings, service description and estimate.
- Choose Authorize service when the displayed work is what you want. Verify the charge and updated maintenance status.
Default preventive-maintenance interval is 15,000 miles for player and fleet trucks. Minor observed wear is not automatically out-of-service. Repair and PM are different tasks: repairing wear does not automatically reset a PM interval. Repairs at an ATS service shop can also resolve matching maintenance findings.
Use Inspections to record a defect and Truck services to resolve maintenance. Their records serve different purposes.
Bank & finances
Account activity, fuel program and insurance.
Bank & finances
Review the current ATS balance, recorded credits/debits and transaction history. Filter All activity, Credits or Debits; use Newer/Older to page through entries. Pay accrued payroll settles eligible payroll through the ATS bank.
The recorded ledger reflects activity observed by HaulTools; it is not a reconstruction of every transaction before installation. Fleet operating revenue and actual ATS bank movement are distinct.
Fuel card
Review the account tier, allowance and current billing cycle. Enroll / upgrade begins the program; it is not automatically enrolled. Use Pay invoice when due and Cancel card when ending the account.
Check the displayed terms, available allowance and statement. Pump approval and a fleet fuel-card invoice are separate stages.
Insurance
Select the driver, review coverage, the 28-day premium, deductible and loss record. Use Buy / renew, Change deductible or Pay premium as needed. Resolve repair / claim handles the eligible selected case.
Use the quoted terms in the workspace before authorizing a charge; coverage and driver loss history affect the result.
Your second screen
A local driver terminal served by the running game plugin.
- Open F9 → Companion with the ATS profile loaded. Enable the server/LAN option if needed.
- Put the phone/tablet on the same local network as the gaming PC. Open the address displayed in Companion, or use Open QR. Default port is 27880.
- Enter the displayed six-digit pairing code. Each paired device gets its own trusted-device token.
- Use Overview, Dispatch, Trip, ELD / DOT and More for Fleet, Hiring, Alerts and Settings. Narrow screens put extra workspaces under More.
- Revoke devices you no longer use in Companion settings. Regenerate the pairing code when you need a new enrollment code.
The terminal shows live profile clocks, duty history, dispatch, fleet, inspection and industrial data when those features are available. Sleeper/Break actions use the same parking and rest requirements as F9. Trip supports drag, pinch, zoom, Fit trip, My truck, company search and route application.
Keep ATS running. Paused, disconnected or stale state is shown in the browser; a queued command can expire if the game cannot service it. Reload the companion browser after a plugin update. If the phone cannot connect, check the shown address, LAN server setting, network and Windows firewall access for your private network. Do not expose this local terminal with internet port forwarding.
Make it your operation
Settings tabs and the controls that affect daily use.
| Tab | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Your profile | Edit driver/company details and the workspace’s profile preferences. The active ATS profile supplies the operational context. |
| Simulation | Enable/disable Logbook & Rest, Truck Services, Fleet & Hiring, Bank & Finances, Dispatch/multi-stop, inspections, random DOT checks, CB, Sleep Anywhere, outside trailer service, fueling prompts, walking sounds, automatic duty changes and Industrial supply. Master simulation controls the main simulation systems; Sleep Anywhere remains separately available. |
| Configuration / Config | Scroll the settings by section. Drag a slider, use +/− or click a value to type within its range. Use Reset last edit to undo the last edit. Changes auto-save. Gameplay/startup-only settings may require restarting ATS. |
| Display & windows | Choose the HaulTools layout/monitor, scaling, compact layout and driving-window preferences. These are overlay/layout settings, not an ATS graphics-resolution switch. For stream capture, use the supported borderless-window/display-capture setup. |
| Hotkey assignment | Select the command, start capture and press the desired key/chord. Follow the result for duplicate/reserved bindings. Use clear/reset controls where available. Exterior/interior WalkMode bindings are keyboard controls; vehicle wheel/button-box bindings remain ATS-owned. |
| WalkMode & lights | Adjust footsteps/jump/breathing sounds, entry motion and sound, walking feel and exterior headlamp brightness/beam/aim. The camera popout adds per-truck geometry calibration. |
Common default audio values are CB voice 10%, static/filter 30%, footsteps 40%, jump 60%, breathing 45% and cab-entry sound 70%. These are separate from ATS’s master volume. The headlamp starts at 155% brightness and 100% beam.

Other gameplay behavior
The installed defaults remove supported invisible boundary barriers, while retaining ordinary terrain/model collision. A boundary option changed in the INI requires a restart; it does not make every scenery surface walkable. Fleet events, maintenance, HOS and production use game time. Automatic CB offer intervals use real seconds.
The control reference
Current active HaulTools defaults, plus contextual and inherited ATS controls.
These are fresh-install defaults. Existing saved assignments override them. Open Settings → Hotkey assignment to check your current bindings. A shortcut acts only in its eligible context; typing/editing captures the keyboard.
Assignable HaulTools commands
| Command | Default binding | Context |

| Tab / Shift + Tab | Next / previous workspace control. |
| Enter or Space | Activate the focused workspace control when not editing text. |
| ← / → | Adjust a focused slider where supported. |

| ATS Activate • normally Enter | ATS depot job-market prompt; eligible intermediate multi-stop interaction in the cab. |
| Displayed walk interaction key | Inspection station, fuel payment/nozzle and exterior unload. HaulTools reads the ATS keyboard Activate binding; E is the fallback when no usable binding is resolved. Follow the prompt, not a guessed key. |
| Shift + walk interaction key | Mark a defect at a walk-inspection station when prompted. |
| ATS Attach/detach • normally T | Outside trailer legs, air/electrical lines and fifth-wheel release, in the order shown. Reads the ATS keyboard binding; T is the fallback. |
| Number keys / numpad, Enter | Fuel terminal PIN entry; game PIN 1234. |
| Backspace | Delete text/PIN input while the corresponding editor is focused. |
Ctrl + F9 is reserved by ATS and cannot be assigned to a HaulTools command.
When something feels stuck
Check the actual state before starting another operation.
F9 does not open, or features are missing
Confirm the DLL is in bin\win_x64\plugins, the complete runtime folder is alongside it, and the matching SCS is enabled on this profile. Check activation and make sure your HaulTools release supports the installed ATS version. Check your saved hotkey and Settings → Simulation; disabled pages may be hidden. Restart after replacing the DLL.
Book inbound appears to do nothing / no cargo at the depot
Read the status line and load card. Start a chain while idle first. Resolve an active ATS job, paused inventory or missing save association. Close F9 and resume driving briefly. Verify the cargo in the pickup city’s Freight Market, clearing search/trailer/city filters and matching weight/destination. Use Route / refresh pickup on the same reservation. A route alone does not prove an offer is visible.
If the depot scan asks you to resume driving, close F9 and return to the road briefly. If the exact offer still does not appear, keep the log and a screenshot of the card and market filters.
Sand disappeared after delivery / output cannot be booked
Check production. Inputs may already be consumed, with output listed as incoming until the batch finishes. Incoming is not available stock. Advance game time. A legal outbound load can require more than one inbound batch, and customer demand/capacity must also permit it.
Older save shows paused industrial inventory
The save may be from before you started using Industrial supply, or its HaulTools profile data may be missing. Follow the workspace’s message. For a save without industrial history, finish or cancel any active job, then use Start chain to begin a new operation.
Depot prompt disappears when I leave the marker
In single player, cross the correct company’s job marker, then park and use Activate. Cross the marker again after loading a save. The market prompt closes once you accept a job. If you still cannot open the market before accepting, include the company, city and plugin log when contacting support.
ATS closes unexpectedly
Install the complete HaulTools release that matches your ATS version, then restart the game. If the problem continues, send support the plugin log, ATS logs and the action you were taking when the game closed. The file locations are listed below.
Voice is silent / controls seem captured
Check the runtime audio pack, CB power, channel, voice volume and the chosen output device. Test the microphone/transmission in Audio & voice. Release PTT, close text editors, and toggle driving-window mouse control off with Ctrl+Shift+M before returning to driving or mouse look.
Useful files for support
Plugin log: %LOCALAPPDATA%\HaulToolsSimulation\logs\HaulToolsSimulation.log Active preferences: %LOCALAPPDATA%\HaulToolsSimulation\config\HaulTools.ini ATS logs in the active ATS user folder: game.log.txt game.crash.txt
Include the HaulTools release version, ATS version, selected workspace, exact action and whether the game was paused, in a market menu or driving. Include a screenshot of the status card or error message if available.
